Murals for Mental Health

Murals for Mental Health

Sant Boi, Spain is home to beautiful scenery, great art & architecture and its mental health hospital. In a quest to counter stigmatism surrounding mental health, a group of 20 artists, including 10 from abroad (Norway, United Kingdom and Sweden) and 10 locals we’re brought together.

The group was asked to brainstorm around the worst images they’d paint on the hospital wall. The idea was to have an open discussion on mental health taboos. After successful sessions, the group settled on a theme of rugs, which symbolizes an open invite to the neighbors, welcoming them to walk in.

Once work began, residents of the health care center assisted the artist with both the design and construction of the mural.

With the mural now complete, the community and mental health hospital residents have both learned from each other, working side-by-side to bring something beautiful to the community.
