Excellence Where it Counts!

Excellence Where it Counts!

Ready for some random excellence? Ever heard of "The Brain Prize"? Yes, it's a real thing. Each year, 1.3 million euros is awarded to highly original AND influential advances in any area of brain research. The prize is Danish in origin but is awarded internationally. Only nominated candidates are considered by a Selection Committee.

This year's winners were Dr. Huda Zoghbi and Sir Adrian Bird. Their work surrounded Rett syndrome. This is a genetic mutation that affects less than one thousand people a year. Children who develop this affliction will eventually lose the ability to crawl or walk.

Dr. Zoghbi and Sir Adrian's research identified opportunities for treatment in this and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Check out the Rett syndrome website for more information on current research, as well as how to help!
